Osama bin Laden (deceased): A typical mass murderer with typical mass murderous tendencies

GetReligion's Terry Mattingly explores the curious angles taken by the media in reporting about the porn stash found among the personal effects of Osama bin Laden (deceased). Of particular interest is this snippet from a Washington Post report:

Three other U.S. officials familiar with evidence gathered during investigations of other Islamist militants said the discovery of pornography is not uncommon in such cases.

To which Mattingly surmises:

So, the assumption — at least in my head — is that they are thinking this is similar to the jihadists hitting the strip clubs to ogle evil Western women in the days or weeks before dying martyr’s deaths, knowing that in their version of Islam they were about to have their tickets punched for direct entry into heaven.

I see things a little bit differently. For all the infamy and notoriety he garnered over the last decade, Osama bin Laden was nothing more or less than a deranged mass murderer who found pleasure in the death of innocent people. It should come as no surprise that such an unregenerate soul would also find pleasure in the sensual fantasy world of pornography. Read the gory details in just about any case involving a mass murderer (see two examples here and here) and an obsessive addiction to pornography is almost always an integral  part of the story.

So, not to belittle the significance of the demise of this particular mass murderer, but why should the discovery of a stash of pornography be considered such earth-shaking news? Osama bin Laden was merely a typical mass murderer with typical mass murderous tendencies; tendencies which, because of the fallen nature of humanity, make no distinction between ethnicity or religion.
