"The vocation of the Church is to be a community where as far as possible disagreement does not exist because truth is known, accepted and celebrated." (Martin Davie)

If a picture is worth a thousand words. . .
. . . then this one can only leave you speechless!
I want to cry out for fairness to all of us who pray with a Prayer Book.
Without seeing the full scene, perhaps it is the case that ++Rowen is praying a profoundly deep prayer from the papers in front of him. Perhaps, the camera caught this picture just before ++Rowen put the papers away to enter into a time of personal prayer. Perhaps, the camera caught him just after he had finished a time of deep personal prayer.
Perhaps none of that is true. Perhaps the picture is what the picture is.
As one not in the "Communion," though a careful (and often frustrated) follower of the "Communion," I want to give the ABC the benefit of the doubt.
My intention in posting the photo (which is actually a screen shot from a live television broadcast) was not to contrast the prayer habits of the two, but simply to celebrate the fact that they were praying together. I have, on many occasions, taken issue with ++Rowan and his leadership of the Communion but, as one who prays from the Prayer Book daily, I certainly have no qualms with him doing the same, even in the presence of his Roman counterpart.

Fr. James,
ReplyDeleteForgive my mis-reading of the post!
I had made incorrect assumptions! (Though, perhaps, due to your having taken issues with ++Rowen from time to time.)
I would join in your celebration!
