Let's get it started: The Rich Mullins Pre-Saint Patrick's Day Countdown
It has become a tradition here that every St. Patrick's Day, I post the video of "The Color Green," the Irish-flavored hymn of praise by the late, great Rich Mullins. As uplifting as some of their works can be, today's Christian recording artists are a universe apart from the Indiana-born troubadour who died in a tragic automobile accident in 1997. Last year, I upped the ante by counting down, in no particular order, some of Mullins's most memorable musical contributions.
A few things have changed since last year, most notably the merger of my three previous blogs into this one new, all purpose site. However, some traditions are worth continuing, changes notwithstanding.
So, without any further adieu, here is that most suitable of opening numbers. "Sing Your Praise to the Lord" was originally written and recorded by Mullins when he was lead singer for a band called Zion. Amy Grant later recorded a well known cover version. Shortly before his death, Mullins recorded another version for the 1996 compilation album, Songs. This live version, however, is far superior to any of the studio versions.
